Bar Stools – How To Find The Right One For Your Space

tall replica black Tolix stoolChoosing a bar stool for your cafe, bar, or restaurant can be a daunting task. Bar stools are a simple enough concept but with so many variables they have the ability to take your overall design in many different directions. Whether you’re looking for actual bar stools or ones to sit in a nook or cranny, we’ve put together some things to consider that might just make your task that bit easier.

The first thing is to consider when starting your search is what space your new stools are going in. Will they be tucked beneath a counter and just brought out at your busiest times, or will be they be on permanent display and therefore being used frequently?

Because bar stools are a tall item of seating furniture they tend to be more noticeable. Glossy black stools can go a long way to making your space appear more contemporary, if that’s your intention.

Metal and wood are two of the most commonly used materials for bar stools and are used alone or combined in a variety of stool designs. If your venue already has a leaning towards an industrial style, then embrace the many stools that complement that design.

Colour – neutral?

If natural earthy tones speak out to you then keep this going with your choice of bar stools. There are a plethora of neutral bar stools and they’ll make you feel right at home.

Colour – stand out?

If on the other hand you’re looking to make a bold statement then why not choose fire engine red stools or burnt orange. If your bar stools are the only colour in a neutral palette they can really add personality and bring your space alive.

Colour – blend in?

If you’re looking for stools that just blend harmoniously with your existing décor then choose from the many contemporary acrylic bar stools that are out there.

You’ll need to measure the height of your bar or counter and allow a gap of around 25-30cm from the bar seat to the underneath of the counter, for maximum comfort.

Frame – Metal?

Metal has loads of benefits as a bar stool, being durable, versatile and easy to clean. They’re usually lighter in weight than wooden stools, which is something else to bear in mind.

Frame – Wood?

Wood always looks great because it adds texture and is warm and earthy. They can also look as good in a contemporary setting as a traditional one.

Generally upholstered stools are more comfortable but if the stool is to be used frequently then you might want to consider a vinyl type of upholstery which can be wiped down in situ.

Backrest ?

A backrest tends to be more comfortable so if your stools are in an area where you’d like people to stay longer, then this is definitely an option to consider.
