Tips on Choosing The Right Cafe Furniture

cafe interiorIf you’re starting up a new cafe, bar, or restaurant then you’ll naturally need to design an area for your customers to sit and dine, and this includes furnishing it. In order to choose the right furniture for your venue that results in happy customers, then it’s important to take your time and do a little research. We’ve put together a few tips to help you.

Create a floor plan

Sounds pretty obvious, right, but the very first step is to measure your space and create an effective floor plan. The aim is to strike a good balance of tables and chairs so that you maximise your floor space and still allow for a good flow of traffic. You need to take into account the space between tables so that waiting staff can move around freely and you also need to leave clear access to the rest rooms.

Once you have a plan in place you can play around with various configurations.

Table shapes and sizes

When it comes to choosing your furniture we’d always recommend that you decide on your tables first. It’s important that your tables are large enough to provide the necessary room for your customers and not any larger. This depends to a certain extent on what your business is selling since a cafe will need tables that are large enough to hold both food and drinks whereas a bar may only need small tables on which to place drinks.

Round tables are a good choice because they make the best use of space and as we stock various sizes, you can always include a variety. Square or rectangular tables are the best choice for booths and for larger groups. Most cafes and bars will have a counter area with bar stools for those people simply wanting a quick coffee or snack, meaning that your floor space can be utilised for people looking more to eat, drink, and chat.

Mobility of furniture

Once you’ve decided on the size and number of tables, you need to consider their mobility. Both tables and bar stools need to be sturdy and robust but light enough to be moved around according to your business demands. Another consideration is whether your chairs stack. Not only does this make it quicker to clear your floor at the end of the working day, but it also makes for convenient storage and means you can quickly produce more chairs at your busiest times of the day. You may also want to consider having a couple of spare tables handy just in case the ones at the front get damaged in some way.

Comfy chairs and bar stools

If a customer is finding their chair or stool uncomfortable then chances are they’ll drink up quickly and head off some place else, never to return again. There really is no substitute for cafe chairs that are comfortable so before making a purchase be sure to try them out for yourself first. Although cushioned chairs might be more comfortable than wooden chairs, that’s not the case if the cushions are hard or lumpy.

Another consideration is height. If you have counters and bar tables in addition to your general seating area, then the stools or chairs for those will typically need to be higher.

Durability

Often durability is overlooked and a person who has not bought commercial furniture may find that their chairs and tables need replacing in just a couple of months. Remember furniture in a commercial venue will have far more use than furniture in your home. Solid wood and metal are always a good choice especially if they have been treated for outdoor use, but you may want to check out polypropylene furniture which is very stylish, versatile, colourful, UV treated, stackable, and designed to last for many years.

Remember also that trends come and go, so your hot pink bar stools may look and feel totally out of place the following year. A tip is to stick to fairly neutral colours and to designs which have longevity and can be replaced easily should a piece get damaged. You can always make your design pop ith bold accent colours that can be easily changed whenever you want to. This will save you time and money in the long run.

Best price

Finally there’s the price to consider. If you’re buying everything from one supplier then chances are you can negotiate a good price whereas this is more difficult if you’re using a variety of suppliers.
