Inspired by Michael Thonet
These stunning chairs are inspired by Michael Thonet’s No.14 chair. Thonet was born in Germany and was a pioneer of furniture design. During the 1830s and 1840s he developed innovative techniques that enabled wood to be steamed and bent into organic shapes and curved which hardened into place as they dried. His big breakthrough came when in 1859 he designed a chair simply known as Number 14 which became synonymous with Vienna cafe houses. Made from just a few pieces it could be assembled and disassembled quickly allowing for easy shipping, and became the forerunner of mass-produced furniture as we know it today.
A modern aesthetic
The number 14 chair came about at a time when furniture was wooden and bulky and hence it seemed like a breath of fresh air that could be afforded the masses. Our cabaret chairs differ from the No 14 chair in that they’re made from steel although the design is similar and they get their name from the Musical that saw Lisa Minnelli using it as a prop to dance around.
Cabaret chairs – the benefits
These fabulous chairs provide numerous benefits for cafe owners including:
Steel is exceptionally hard-wearing and the powder coating adds further protection again scratches and marks. Better still, they’re lighter than wooden chairs and can be easily moved from one place to another to meet customers’ needs.
Despite its light weight, steel is exceedingly strong which when you consider the variety of sized people that will be sitting on them, is an essential element in a cafe chair. Many of our cabaret chairs are certified by the AFRDI which tests for strength, comfort, durability and more, so you can purchase them with confidence.
Cabaret chairs also come in several gorgeous colours including forest green, red, and yellow which are great for adding a pop of colour in a neutral palette and are sure to get those creative juices flowing. They also come in black if you’re looking to create an elegant and sophisticated ambience.
Easy to maintain
Finally, it’s good to know that cabaret chairs look after themselves and no maintenance is required. That’s because the joints are securely welded together so there are no nuts and bolts to come loose. Additionally, these chairs are easily wiped clean with a damp cloth, so again hassle-free.
Here at Cafe Solutions in addition to cabaret chairs, we also stock a wide range of other indoor and outdoor chairs at affordable prices that won’t make a huge dent in your wallet. Why not browse our online store or visit our showroom to see them close up. We look forward to seeing you there.
